Nurses walk close to 10,000 steps – almost 8km – in an average 12 hour shift. With the increase need for Healthcare workers due to COVID-19, they are doing and moving even more so we don’t have to – #StrongerTogether. As our communities have been isolated at home, helping to flatten the curve, the opportunity to be active was diminished: working from home increased, public gatherings restricted, gyms closed, and the ability to engage in non-essential errands reduced.
Our activity levels have dropped anywhere from 80-90% in the last few months, but healthcare workers have been constantly on the move for us, now more than ever. We found as an organization, we need to set an example and encourage each other to get moving, and stay healthy so healthcare workers can focus on those who need them most.
Health is the centre of our mission for our patients at Centricity Research, but it is also part of our culture as an organization. That is why we are Stepping UP to the Challenge! The teams at Centricity Research will be getting into our stride this summer so we can move our way to 1,000,000 steps together! Biking, yoga, walking, you name it – anything that will get us moving will be converted into steps and counted towards our team goals.
We will be working hard to build our stamina and endurance so we can continue to serve our communities, and bring forward new research opportunities for COVID-19 as quickly as possible. Would you like to join us?
Sign up to join the challenge! Our challenge will also be open to patients and research volunteers in our communities who are looking for that kick start to getting moving again! All you need is a smart phone to get started. Please reach out to us below to learn more about how you can participate in Stepping UP for Healthcare Workers!
We will be doing periodic challenges throughout the summer so be prepared to step up!
